Canadian Rockies
The Worlds Last Wilderness Refuge

The Canadian Rockies are a segment of the Rocky Mountains that extend southeastward from northern British Columbia, Canada and form nearly half the border between British Columbia and Alberta. The Mackenzie and Selwyn mountains along the border between the Northwest and Yukon territories are sometimes included as part of the Canadian Rockies. Much of the Canadian Rockies are within several National Parks where the roads and railroads are among the most beautiful in the world.

The peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains are mighty, rugged, and exquisite. Known as the grand masterpiece of the West, this area is the worlds last wilderness refuge. The Rockies are a vast land filled with spectacular scenery, fresh mountain air, wildlife, and recreational activities for all ages. There is a lot to see and do around the Rockies, from quiet meadows to thundering waterfalls, towering peaks to misty canyons. The area also has several museums and historical sites that spotlight the fascinating history of the area.

The Rockies are one of the most stunning ranges of mountains, with hundreds of glaciers and lakes that contrast the large peaks. The valleys are abundant with wildlife, where you have a good chance of spotting black and grizzly bear, elk, deer, moose and coyote, as well as humming birds and bald eagles. The coast has one of the richest marine habitats in the world, where humpback, grey, and killer whales, as well as seals can be seen. You can also take an overnight sea kayak expedition on Clayoquot Sound or take a walk through the ancient rainforests on Vancouver Island. Other activities include whitewater rafting and mountain biking, but a horseback packtrip in cowboy country is perhaps the most life altering experience you can have in the Rockies.

Each season is different in the Rockies with its own special beauty and activities. The alpine towns of Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Fernie, Kimberley, Waterton, Canmore, Kananaskis, Invermere, Revelstoke, Golden, Valemont and Cranbrook are ideal places for mountain adventures and splendor. The Icefields Parkway is and ideal area for exploring the wilds of Canada. At Radium, Fairmont, and Nakusp the hot springs are rejuvenating and can be enjoyed all year round. With half the year devoted to skiing and snowboarding and the other half to hiking, horseback riding and white water rafting, there are more than enough activities to satisfy the adventure seeker in all of us.
