The world lost one of its most-loved comedians, with the passing of Johnny Carson. The former host of NBC's Tonight Show passed away January 23, 2005. He died of complications from emphysema at the age of 79.

For three decades, Johnny Carson was undoubtedly the undisputed king of late night television. Carson was introduced each weekday night with the memorable line, "Here's Johnny!" by his jolly sidekick Ed McMahon. Famous for his wry comedic monologues, Carson introduced a stable of future stars to his multi-million viewing audience.

Some of Carson's funniest and most outrageous moments, in my opinion, were his portrayal of Art Fern, the sleazy TV pitchman, and, of course, "Carnac the Magnificent," the turban-clad mentalist. Surprisingly enough, Carson began his show business career AS a magician.

13 years ago, Carson handed over the reigns of the Tonight Show to comedian Jay Leno. It was recently released that Carson supplied late night CBS host David Letterman with a few jokes.

I'll always have fond memories of Johnny Carson. Nobody will ever be able to replace his style, wit, and personality.
