The Christmas Star
The Star of Bethlehem

The Christmas Star or the Star of Bethlehem was a star or star like object that guided the Magi or
the Three Wise Men. The Gospel of Matthew in the second chapter in the New Testament of the Bible,
provides the only record of this star. In Matthew's account of the birth of Jesus the star led
the Three Wise Men to the stable in Bethlehem where he was born.

There have been many translations of this story. In the King James version of the Bible it states
that the wise men saw the star in the east and it went before them until is stood over the place
where the young child was. This version has many concluding that the Christmas Star was actually
a beam of light that pointed the pathway to where Jesus and his parents where staying or that the
star was moving on a path from Jerusalem to Bethlehem.
Scholars and laymen alike have for centuries speculated on the nature of the Christmas Star that
guided the Three Wise Men. There is only one reliable account in the Bible that describes the
visit of the wise men to Jesus, and that is in Matthew Chapter Two. Unfortunately the information
that is given does not give sufficient details to the identify of the wise men or the nature of
the star that led them on their journey.
