Traditional Cornbread Stuffing
A Side Dish for any Thanksgiving or Christmas Feast

Today more than ever, there is nothing like having family and friends gather for a Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. Every family has its own traditional meal that they prepare each year for Thanksgiving. Everyone serves turkey and pumpkin pie, but the side dishes are what set the meals apart. Since corn was an integral part of the first Thanksgiving, cornbread stuffing is one way of adding corn to your Thanksgiving meal. Just as the side dishes vary from region to region, so do the stuffing recipes.

Stuffing or dressing, as it is sometimes called, has become a national dish. Cornbread can add texture and a heartier flavor to traditional stuffing. There are many variations and each family has their own traditional version, these are usually based on the region of the country and the preference of the cook. You can easily create your own signature stuffing by taking a basic recipe and adding whatever you like. The variations are endless. Some believe that the safest way to cook stuffing is by baking it in the oven, but it can also be stuffed in the turkey as well. Just make sure the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

If you are having a hard time deciding whether to call your dish stuffing or dressing, here is a good rule of thumb, if it is stuffed inside the turkey it is stuffing, but if it is baked in a pan it is dressing.
