Holga Camera Page
A Classic Cult Camera
The Holga Camera apparently originated in China, about 1982. Still, being manufactured (in several versions), its
basically an inexpensive plastic toy camera. It has has light leaks
and lens flares that make it an artistic photographer's
cult favorite. The Holga produces some exceptionally dramatic
and appealing photographs on 120 roll film, in either 6x4.5
or 6x6 format.
The allure of the Holga is also that you have to actually
make certain modifications, to allow it to take photographs.
In other words, the back can fall off, thus destroying an
entire roll of film. Its plagued with faults and flaws that
makes each Holga as different as a snowflake, as well as the
photos it produces.
The Holga comes in the original version, as well as one
with a flash. Holga purists seem to shy away from the flash
model.
Reportedly over 250-thousand Holga Cameras have been sold in 20
different countries.
The Holga allows a photographer to explore the world of medium
format photography, in a highly unique and artistic fashion,
for a mere few dollars.
