Maui Snorkeling
Come Swim Through Coral Reefs with Thousands of Tropical Fish

Maui, known as the Valley Isle, is the second largest island in the Hawaiian Island Chain. With it's clear water and sunny skies if is natural for snorkeling. Maui is also home to four marine preserves where the waters and marine life are protected. These are Honolua Bay, Ahihi Bay, La Perouse Bay, and Molokini Crater.

Honolua Bay lies north of Kapalua, and is best for snorkeling in the summer when the ocean is at its calmest. The bay is lined on each side with coral formations and there are lots of colorful fish and an excellent chance of spotting a few turtles. Ahihi Bay if a very private and secluded snorkel paradise. It is located south of Oneloa, where you will be rewarded with some of the clearest water in this unspoiled underwater preserve. It is a great place to get use to your gear whether you are a beginner or just a little rusty.

La Perouse Bay is an excellent place to snorkel if it isn't too windy. This bay is located about four miles south of Ahihi Bay. If you are lucky you may get to swim with the dolphins that are frequently in the area. Molokini Crater is a crescent shaped caldera that is over 10,000 years old, and one of only a few in the world. It is located three miles off the shores of Maui and is famous for its incredibly clear and calm waters. Here you will enjoy thousands of tropical fish, and possibly see monk seals, whale sharks, manta rays and harmless white tip sharks. Molokini is one of the most popular and exotic snorkel areas in the world and a must see destination for any visitor.



There are several other good places to snorkel on Maui. They are Makulei'a Bay, Kapalua Bay also known as the prettiest beach on Maui, Kahekili Beach Park, Black Rock, Olowalu, Coral Gardens, Kamaole, Mokapu, Ulua, Polo Beach, Five Caves, and Turtle Town.

Maui casts a spell over the more than two million people who visit each year. With its wonderful beaches, glorious sunsets, and in the winter leaping humpback whales, Maui is justifiably one of the top vacation spots in the world.
