Scotland Golf
Every Golfers Dream
The dream of every golfer, no matter what standard they are, is to one day travel to Scotland and
play on one of the world's most renowned courses. Thousands visit the birth place of golf each
year to test their skills against the difficulties and intracacies of some of the oldest golf
courses in the world. For most golfers, this is the ultimate goal, because they feel that they
haven't really played the game until they have attempted to master at least one of Scotland's
courses.
As you stand on the lush green turf preparing to tee off, the mountains behind you and a gentle
breeze blowing the scent of heather through the air, all about you there is the atmosphere of
history. There is a feeling of exilaration, just knowing you will be walking in the footsteps
of the greats who made golf what it is today.
Scotland is truely the home of golf, the stamp of greatness is everywhere. With over 500 courses,
most of them world renown, the choices are overwhelming. The most famous being the coastal links,
which nature has designed, but don't overlook the magnificent inland courses which can provide
an equally challenging test.
Most golfers are familiar with the big name courses, such as, St. Andrews, Turnberry, Royal Troon,
Prestwick, Muirfield and Carnoustie. But, Scotland has many more golfing gems that offer the
same championship standards. These include, Royal Dornoch, Gullane, Nairn, North Berwick and
Dunbar to name a few. You might also consider some of the lesser known courses such as Traigh,
Porpatrick, Brora, Machrie and Musselburgh.
When planning your trip to Scotland, there are several options available, keep in mind that
access to the more well known courses can sometimes difficult as well as expensive. So, you
might consider one of the overlooked courses, that offer the same championship standards and
historical significance as the larger courses, but are less costly and have more available tee
times.
Remember, golf is a part of Scottish tradition and is understood better there than anywhere on
earth. So, test your golfing ability, while enjoying golf on its most purest and natural level.
You can also take in the beauty and culture that is Scotland, between rounds, by visiting historic
towns, castles and distilleries. You will take home memories that will last a lifetime.
