Farewell Scotty
Actor James Doohan - Original Star Trek Cast
In Memory
James Doohan - Scotty from Star Trek
James Doohan, who solved futuristic engineering problems aboard
the USS Enterprise as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott on the original
Star Trek TV series, pass away Wednesday (July 20, 2005) at his home in
Washington state. Doohan was 85 and had been battling several
illnesses, including Alzheimer's disease and pneumonia.
When I was a reporter, Dooham was one of my most memorable
media interviews. He had a hilarious routine, where he'd perfom
various nationality's dialects for "Scotty," during an interview.
Doohan even wrote a book,"Beam Me Up Scotty."
According to longtime agent, Steve Stevens Sr., the Star Trek
star will be cremated and his ashes launched into space by the
same Houston-based aerospace company that shot the remains of
Gene Roddenberry into orbit. Roddenberry was the creator of
the sci-fi series. He died in 1991.
"Nobody embraced the fans like James did," Stevens said.
"He loved the fans, and they loved him. He felt that he needed
to give back what he got."
