School Shooting Incident in Tennessee
Community in Shock, as 1 Person Dies, 2 Others Injured
An East Tennessee community remains in shock, tonight, following
a school shooting incident that left one person dead, two injured,
and one juvenile in custody.
Local law enforcement officials and the Tennessee Bureau of
Investigation continue their probe into this afternoon's fatal
shooting at Campbell County High School in Jacksboro.
Initial reports indicate a student allegedly opened fire, killing
Assistant Principal Ken Bruce (who died at St. Mary's Medical
Center in LaFollette). Injured were Principal Gary Seale and
Assistant Principal Jim Pierce.
Seale and Pierce are listed in serious condition at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, after
being airlifted from the scene by Lifestar helicopter.
15-year old Kenneth Bartley, a freshman, was reportedly taken
into custody by Campbell County Sheriff Ron McClellan. Bartley
is scheduled to appear before a judge Wednesday morning.
The shooting is said to have happened around 2:00 PM and
the school was immediately placed on lockdown status. All
Cambell County schools will remain closed the rest of the week.
Quoting a statement issued by Tennessee Governor Phil
Bredesen: "Our first priority is the children, faculty,
and staff that call Campbell County High School home. We
are doing everything we can to help ensure they have the
access to the support services and counseling they need
as quickly as possible."
