Tennessee's Finest Vine Ripe Tomatoes

East Tennessee has the usual seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter. However, you can also add some others to the Volunteer State's bill of fare, like UT Football season, for example. NOW - It's "Grainger County Tomato Season!"

People from all over the United States seem to have a passion for Grainger County tomatoes, because they're "special." That's because of the area's unique soil sediment combination and the grower's actual "passion" for their crops.

The tomatoes aren't gassed, but picked vine ripened, giving the varieties a big difference in taste.

Reportedly, some growers had to plant late and others who planted early got a lot of hail damage. Weather is said to have delayed the tomato crop by 2 weeks.
