Television Theme Songs

Times have really changed, when it comes to intros/theme songs for the newer television sitcoms. Instead of some snappy production, with a catchy tune, you get a computer generated graphic, and a few seconds of dischordant notes. Again, I'm talking about some of the newer programs. Most of the comedies, that have been airing a few years, fair better, but still don't live up to the classics.

Looking back, some TV theme songs even made it big on the music charts, and were quite popular. Of course, you're lucky to catch such a show on re-runs, if ever.

I may have figured out the reason for the abbreviated introductions. It probably has less to do with society and culture, as I had originally thought, but more with advertising. The shorter you make the lead, the more commercials you can cram in.

There was just something extremely entertaining, however, as Archie and Edith belted out "Those were the days." When they wrapped up their duet (at the begining of each episode), I recall the twinkle in Archie's eyes when, in a grandiose gesture, he'd put a cigar in his mouth and smile. Those were the days!
