Freighter Surfing

I learned something really interesting by watching network television news the other night. There's a new craze on Texas' Gulf Coast called: Freighter Surfing. Apparently since there's a lack of really good waves, a group of surfers actually ride the wake of big tanker ships.

Being an old surfer, at heart, I thought this was a pretty neat idea. Having surfed off Galvestion, Texas, the only REAL waves we ever had, were during hurricane season, which is not something I'd advise. So Freighter Surfing seemed a bit more my speed. Of course I'd suspect you'd run the risk of getting pulled down into a ship's propellor system, if you weren't careful.

We're just into the hurricane season, this year, and I also noticed there were some serious, well, crazed surfers off the Carolina Coast, looking to catch the perfect wave. Not exactly a scenario where you'd want to wipe out, in my opinion.
