Oprah's Car Give-Away

I'm sure many folks got a kick out of this, but I didn't. Oprah Winfrey celebrated the premiere of her 19th season by surprising each of her 276 audience members with a new car. The cars, which retail for $28,000, were donated by Pontiac, and the company will reportedly pay the taxes.

I don't like Oprah, or jazzed up, trendy, television talk shows, in general. A publicity stunt, like this, is just plainly that, a blatant self-serving promotion. Its degrading that networks would even allow such things.

In a way, Oprah's car give-away was kind of a "slap in the face" to the hard-working guy or gal, just trying to make ends meet, and put a couple of dollars of high-priced gasoline in their vehicle, to get to their job.

I knew the man who gave Oprah her first real "break" into the world of television. He was a good friend, who sadly died "on the air," working an all-night DJ show at a medium-market radio station.

Do you think Oprah remembers how she got where she is, or even remembers that man's name? Is she (or any of those other over-hyped, no talent, talking heads) in touch with reality?

Draw your own conclusion, there, but I think NOT!
