Grand Ole Opry loses Roy Drusky and Skeeter Davis
The Grand Ole Opry and the County Music world lost two time-honored performers this past week: Roy Drusky and Skeeter Davis.
From Nashville, Tennessee comes word that singer/songwriter Roy Drusky, 74, a member of the Opry for 46 years, died after a lengthy battle with emphysema. He was best known for his hit duet,"Yes, Mr. Peters," although he recorded over 50 albums.
The Opry also reports that Skeeter Davis passed away. Davis, 72, has been battling breast cancer. Davis was unique in her ability to maintain a cross-over listening audience, as evidenced by her number one chart topper, "The End of the World."
Both performers will be sadly missed. I'm a big fan of country music from that era. In in my opinion, THAT was "Classic Country Music." Its far better than the rock-style, boot-scootin' garbage that DJ's play on the radio, these days.
