Healthy Canned Foods
There's always been a bit of a controversy between fresh and canned vegetables. Since I've had to limit my sodium, fat, and calories, I've been reading labels quite closely, which is actually something I'd advise everyone to do. For example, I was looking for a can of peas to be used in a simple recipe, and was quite
please to see that many brands offer a "healthy" choice. In the can I ended up buying (on sale, as a matter of fact), the total fat came in at .05g., there was no cholesterol, the sodium
weighed in at 20mg., total calories per serving: 60. There were 3.5 servings in the 15 oz. can. All in all, not to bad. Here's something else to keep in mind about canned goods, with the recent onset of severe weather from hurricanes, its always a good plan to keep a supply on hand, just in case of natural disasters or emergency situations.
